The
1st VIII with the Princess Elizabeth Cup at Henley Royal Regatta 2007.
The Royal Shrewsbury
School Boat club is almost unique in being genuinely no more than a
decent stone's throw from the school itself. The school's location,
high on the banks of the Severn (shown below in flood), is the envy
of rowing schools across the country, as is a recently built indoor
rowing tank set into the river bank. Salopians are able to make use
of these facilities all year round: many boys, especially from their
second or third year upwards, make rowing their major sport for all
three terms; others enjoy the sport at house level, either in
regular competitions throughout the Michaelmas and summer terms, or
in "bumps", the Oxbridge-style house bumping races which provide the
climax to the summer term.
